Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941, a Date which will live in Infamy... No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people, in their righteous might, will win through to absolute victory.” President Roosevelt

For many Italian Americans, World War II was a difficult era.

The U.S. had declared war on their ancestral home, many were perceived as a national security threat and domestic sentiment towards citizens with Italian heritage was skeptical, at best. Despite all these challenges, more than half a million Italian Americans joined and proudly served in the U.S. Armed Forces during WWII.

These are five Italian Americans you should know who made WWII history...

Christmas holidays in Italy start with the Day of Immaculate Conception on December 8th. This Catholic holiday celebrates the conception of the Virgin Mary as free from sin because she was conceived immaculately. Despite the religious nature of this day, many families use this free day to get together and start decorating their Christmas trees.

The festive season then runs until Epiphany on January 6th. That’s when the Three Wise Men arrived in Bethlehem with their gifts for the Baby Jesus.

When it comes to exchanging presents, Italians don’t have a specific day dedicated to that. While some exchange gifts on...

LOCAL PLAYERS NEEDED...

While I’ve reached out to the Kansas City Ethnic Enrichment Commission as a whole, I’d like to touch base personally. We’re currently working on organizing a local KC Men’s recreational World Cup soccer tournament to be held the end of September/beginning of October (depending on number of teams). We have had almost 50 players sign up to play from various backgrounds, including Italy, but we need more in order to field a full team.

I am reaching out to see if there are any potential players who have some sort of connection to Italy and would want to represent Italy in the tournament. If anyone is interested in coaching as opposed to playing would also be welcome.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide us in getting an Italian team on the field.

Sincerely,
Brandon Fisher

ROME — Italian archaeologists are hailing a recent discovery as the "most exceptional" in the last half-century. They believe it could rewrite the history of the relationship between the Etruscan and Roman civilizations.

Over a period of a few weeks in September and October, a team of archaeologists unearthed two dozen bronze statues of human figures, more than 2,000 years old and perfectly preserved in the hot mud and waters of an ancient, sacred pool.

The site is the hot springs of the Tuscan town of San Casciano dei Bagni — San Casciano of the Baths, one of many picturesque hilltop towns towering over lush green valleys dotted with majestic cypress trees.
