The dish dates to the 9th century during the Muslim takeover of Sicily and relates to a dish of that period called Spaghetti all Syracusana.

Place some ravioli at the bottom of each soup bowl, ladle the soup over, and top it off with a generous dollop of the ricotta mixture.
